Today I have the pleasure to have a guest poster at Alien Ghost! Nacho Jordi, from Zerebria, has a very interesting topic for all of us to enjoy and think about.
If you haven’t visited Nacho’s blog, please take the time to stop by and dig in his archives. His posts are always intelligent, funny, and with lots of very useful information, so you can have an eye opening experience, and mind blowing time.
Now, without further ado, I leave the stage for Nacho.
Fascination as a Container
I saw them the other day while I was having a short walk. They were sat on a bench, and he was talking about i-phone models, I think. As for her, she dazzled me: her eyes, her body language, something in the seriousness of her silence… all of her as a whole was the living image of receptivity. She was fascinated, receiving all of that as one who receives the rain.
I am a very enthusiastically kind of person, and I remember having received that kind of attention in several of my former girlfriends, now and then, generally in situations when I was rambling about books or music. And I hope that memory does not play tricks on me, but I think that, even while those moments were taking place, in spite of the ‘natural high’ that love always induces on you, I clearly perceived that the fascination I was granted with had very little to do with the particular contents I was producing. Instead of books, I could have been an obsessive stamp collector or a vegetarian die-hard fan for the case. What my girls liked, just like what that girl seemed to like in her i-phonic friend, was the spark of illusion, the beauty of fascination, the fact that something in this world of us can cause such a state in a human being.
So there was a clear distinction between the object that created fascination, and the fascination itself. The first element, in all the cases I’ve seen, seemed to have a secondary role. I have a theory for that.
I just cannot know, of course, but I’ve always had a feeling that men are more oriented to the ‘what’ of things, while women’s great specialty is the ‘how’. The easiest example at hand is their typical entertainments in popular culture for each of them:
Men – Sports
-”They won by (what?) 8 points yesterday’s match”
-”Among (what?) the five first teams in the league”
-”His average speed is (what?) 20% faster than its competitors”
(Additionally, the ‘how’ is very feeble: Question: how does the coach feels about winning the match? Answer: OBVIOUSLY, he feels very happy, because they have worked a lot and it puts them in a good situation to face the finals, etc. Which is a very primitive, secondary, and previsible, set of feelings).
Women – Gossip press
-”He later declared that he was (how?) very sorry for his remarks”
-”10 of the (how?) best/worst dressed celebrities”
(Additionally, the ‘what’ is usually quite insignificant (to the desperation of men!): the ‘celebrities’ who elaborate their disappointment, who tell everything about their wedding or the birth of their child, etc, are very often, if you think it, a not-so-famous singer, an actress who has not done something worthwhile in three decades or so, the former fiancée of a former tennis player, who something of the kind).
Of course, I don’t claim to be an expert on the issue of genders. As my theory is mostly a hunch, I’m sure you can allege a ton of counter-examples if you want to. To make things even harder, biologically, gender is not binary; we cannot simply create the ‘how’ and ‘what’ tribes because, hormonally, we all human beings have a male and a female part; there are no pure categories in nature, but a continuum. As soon as you abandon Sesame Street-like simplifications, the issue of gender can take you very far… far beyond, indeed, than what is intended in the dimensions of a blog post! But precisely because it is an issue with such a richness and complexity, I think it is necessary that we abandon clichés about it as soon as possible and start to explore and discuss it with more naturality. So this is my humble contribution to the matter, with my acknowledgement to Raul for allowing me to publish in his terrific blog.
What do you think?

Today I have the pleasure to announce that Alien Ghost has made a trip to Madrid, Spain. This weird alien has a Guest Post at the awesome blog Zerebria.
Zerebria is where Nacho Jordi talks about the human brain; as he describes in his blog:
“The human brain, the mysterious machine, and everything that has to do with it, from the point of view of a fascinated user”
So please take a quick trip there to check the post “Loop Mode”, where I talk about the similarities between computers controlled new cars and some people you might have encounter in your daily life.
And while you’re there, don’t let pass the opportunity to dig Zerebria’s Archives, to find: “Profitable gems that allow you to live a more active, focused and productive life”
Have fun!

A short one:
I don’t chew gum, so I don’t know. To try to find an answer, sometime ago I “tested” a chewing gum and found no difference.
What I’ve seen is that people who eat with their mouths closed, chew gum with their mouths open; have you noticed? Why is that?
Any enlightening? What makes the difference? Just curious

Just a couple of weeks ago there was the post number one hundred. Today, November 4th, 2010, this blog becomes exactly one year old!
And like a one year old child, this blog is learning to throw things at people, make weird faces and become noisy when there’s something it wants
Think of it more like a declaration of independence…
One of the things I’ve seen bloggers do when they reach a year time blogging, is to give away something as a gift to their faithful followers. I’ve also seen them do it in a way that will help them spread the word of their blogs and increase readership.
Seems like a good idea! But not for me…
Instead, I’ll share with you the beautiful Denver’s clouds that I get to see everyday, without any strings attached.
I know many people will disagree with me, and claim they have the most beautiful clouds of all; so I won’t argue, and just let them live their mistake and enjoy their innocence
Now, since uploading big pictures in a post will increase the loading time of the page, I placed the pictures below in thumbnail size. If you click in them you should be able to see them in a bigger size.
If you want to download them to your computer, just right click in the opened picture and “save picture as”. It should save it in JPEG; 1024 x 768; 72 dpi; and between 42 and 134 KB each.
These are all pictures I took myself, so there are no copyrights involved, and you can use them for whatever reason you want, and without the need of giving credit or making a link to this blog (I know, my business skills need some work!).
Hey! I consider myself a rebel blogger: No specific niche; no ads; no reviews; no Facebook; no Twitter (I created an account a couple of years ago, but after the first tweet to test, I simply abandoned the whole thing). And slowly but surely I’m starting to speak up my mind…you’ll see… (he-he).
Anyway, about the pictures, let me clarify that I am not a seasoned photographer, and my cameras, although digital, work on raw oil instead of batteries (they are that old). One is an Olympus D 390 and the other an Olympus C 470, and I like to greet the clouds when picturing them, so my hand is always shaking.
So, take a look at them, and if you like them, please feel free to download them for whatever use you see fit, without any obligation to me or this blog.
It’s a gift, not a business or promotion tactic!
Enjoy; and if you happens to find a favorite, tell me in the comment section
Also, if you want a copy without the captions, let me know and I’ll send you an email with the pictures in 1024 x 768 in an attachment.
(And don’t forget to have a drink to celebrate this little brat-blog’s first year!)

Denver’s Clouds

This one becomes the number 100 post! Crazy isn’t it? Time goes really fast when we are fully immersed in something we enjoy, like for me writing in this blog.
It’s been a crazy ride for the almost one year so far; with so many ups and downs, so many moments of high speed travel when all the elements seem to be in perfect synchronicity, and so many moments of breaking down by the side of the road, when no creativity, ideas or simply a road to keep going through and a sense of being lost takes home; so, digitally standing there, with both hands in the hips, looking around and thinking -now what!-
The momentum have been growing little by little and now, still a little confused yet with a better idea of the destination, Alien Ghost blog is revving up and increasing speed as the road becomes smoother by the better view offered by an almost year of crawling, walking and now almost running to, at some point, reach the planned destination.
If you got confused by the Alien Ghost logo in red when it should be green, the reason is as a way to reflect this sense of getting more enthusiastic and revved up for the next 100 posts!
Alien Ghost is getting hot!
Among the many elements that have been part of this process I can happily count the Cherry On Top Award passed on to me by Patricia of Patricia’s Wisdom (thanks Patricia!), the many encouraging comments of several readers, together with their participation in contributing another perspective to many of the posts published so far.
So the seed did germinate and grow a little bit, surviving the elements to still remain and pass on to the group of blogs that didn’t end up in the sad count of abandoned to die after a while.
Now it is about to keep pushing with renewed patience while keep practicing the writing process and the blogging one, to retain and grow even more the momentum that embraces this blog.
“Patience and Practice…the opposite of Quick Reward, which has become the main element of modern society”
To all my readers…thank you for your support, participation and encouraging words. You are the fuel that keeps Alien Ghost moving forward.
See you again in the next 100!
