Back to the Net

Posted by Raul on March 5, 2011

Picture: “Salar de Uyuni”Bolivia (about 12,000 feet altitude)

This picture somehow reflects for me what is to be traveling in the internet: Amazing and scary at the same time! Someday I’ll have to visit this place :)

I’m back…and happy to say that it wasn’t a hack but just a flood of spam that came even through the ears!  Little by little I’ve been changing things here and there to prevent such flood, like placing sand bags all around Alien Ghost blog; so my apologies for any inconvenience that you might step on within the next several days.

I also changed the personal picture for a newer one; taken on March 04 this year 2011 (I don’t even remember how old the previous one was!). And as you might notice, I added a third one (no, it’s not about apocalyptic times!).

The first one is “Who”; the second one is “Under what name”, and the third one is “About what”. To me, that picture reflects very well the human mind…complex, scary, yet beautiful! We can stop and observe our own mind, and we’ll see how wonderful it is.

For a long time I’ve been fascinated with the human brain and mind for all the capabilities, gifts and chains it provides, making possible to become who we are and what we do, in a personal level and as a race.

So, after the flood and many off-line activities, finally there is some time left to visit again the on-line world, to live in the extension of the mind in a non-physical world, as the dream land we all have become addicted to.

Thank you for your patience and understanding (only one person unsubscribed from Alien Ghost!)

I’ll start visiting you all again and posting new weird thoughts for you to get confused once again (he-he) :)

Hacked?

Posted by Raul on February 21, 2011

Due to some strange happenings with emails that I’m receiving, I’m gonna have to pull down this blog for a while, so to make sure it is not something related to being hacked.

If you have experienced something out of the regular or expected when visiting this site, please let me know in the comment section (I already had to pull down the Contact Page).

Or: isettadnv / at / Comcast / net

I’ll keep the blog up for one or two days and then pull it down to investigate and make sure it is not being used to attack other people’s blogs or email addresses.

Sorry for any inconvenience  :(

Thank you for your patience and help  :)

Ditching on the Job

Posted by Raul on February 10, 2011

To the problems of cold weather that have made very slow the progress in the engine rebuilding I’ve been working on, just a couple of days ago I had the “pleasure” of ditching on the job.

With the accumulated snow and very low temperatures at night that created ice under the fresh snow, my van slid sideways while doing my delivery job, and I got stuck by the ditch at the side of the road.

Three o’clock in the morning; around -15 degrees Fahrenheit, and still one third of the route pending. I called the warehouse manager and got his best wishes in finishing my route. Fortunately, and with a borrowed car, I was able to finish the pending part of the route and go home.

The next morning a hired tow truck pulled my stranded van from the ditch, and after some strange reactions from the brakes, suspension and doors while driving it back home, the vehicle recovered itself and was ready to tackle the next delivery day, without emergency repairs needed (phew!).

I must admit; I don’t like cold weather!  Even though I’ve tried to see the nice part of it (beautiful snowed sights), after many years and these kinds of events, I still long for the return of spring with its warmer temperatures, longer days and greener views, so days could be used more productively while enjoyed at the same time.

Frozen!

Posted by Raul on February 7, 2011

For the past couple of weeks I haven’t been able to dedicate more than one or two hours total to this blog. The reason is the cold temperatures and the snow here in Denver.

I’ve been working in rebuilding an engine; but because of the cold temperatures (sometimes between -15 to -25 Fahrenheit (-26 to -32 Celsius)), everything is frozen and making the whole rebuilding process really slow.

You can see in the pictures how the freezing temperatures affect the metal (engine and tools), and with it, the whole process of taking apart, cleaning, rebuilding and putting together.

Fortunately, and with the help of a kerosene heater, slowly and little by little the engine is starting to take shape again, and hope in a couple of days it’ll be running once more, freeing me enough to have some time to visit your blogs, comment, and write in this one.

I believe in Murphy’s Laws, so most probably as soon as I finish with this engine temperatures will become nice and warm again. Somehow it is nice to think that I can control the weather!  :)

New Year’s Resolutions

Posted by Raul on December 30, 2010

Ahh…those freaking New Year’s resolutions that as a norm we never follow. Even if we finally change the “Should I” for the “I Should”, they still seem to dance around the fire making fun of our willpower, like the vision of a candy store seems to make fun to his desires in a child’s eyes.

So close…so far away!  Human instincts at war with human logic. Memberships forgotten; books with a growing topping of dust; written lists that slowly fusion with the walls, to the point of never being seen again…or at least with normal eyes. Instead the surrounding walls become the screaming consciousness to the senses for the avoided promises, bringing another point to the score of weight to be carried in tired shoulders for the years to come.

And yet, every new year the memories from past promises join the new ones, to conform the new bulk to avoid by the inner thoughts that fight the logic of it all.

Don’t take this post seriously…I’m just making fun of us all, including myself. It is not a criticism of our willpower, but a celebration of our humanity.

So what is my New Year’s resolution?  I think I’ll let my sarcasm flow more freely in 2011  :)

By the way…I took this picture at night while doing my delivery job. I don’t know if Santa is taking a nap after so much work, or if the party was so good that he ended up on the lawn completely drunk!  Those inflatable decorations can be cute when up and funny when down.

Funny though that somehow it resembles our own ways at this time of the year: The spirit of Christmas combined with the party attitude that can be seen all around.

One of my wife’s colleagues told her of something funny that happened when taking her 3 years old grand-kid to see Santa at the mall: While seating in Santa’s lap, Santa asked him: “What would you like for Christmas?”, and he answered: “What do you got?”

Smart kid, no doubt!

Happy 2011 to everyone!   :)
