The David Returns to Italy

The other day I received this joke in an email. I thought it was funny, but also makes you think of what’s happening in the US, and how people around the world see Americans. (The email was in Spanish).

The David returns to Italy

After two years loaned to the US, the David of Michelangelo is returned to Italy

Its proud sponsors were:

Crazy, Isn’t it?

    Hahaha, that was great!

However, this is also something very real. You know, the fire exits of buildings have stairs and the steps are meant to be wide enough to fit two people. However, because people are getting fatter and fatter, they have to modify the regulations so the new buildings are supposed to have wider stairs. It is a very real problem.

    Hi kelvin,

I didn’t know about the stairs in buildings having to be built wider now. Yeap! it is becoming a “big” problem :)

Okay…this made me laugh and that’s a great beginning for the weekend. I loved who sponsored it, as well:~)

Also, what Kelvin said about having to change the width of the stairs is kind of scary. It’s a sad testament to how we live today in America.

There’s also a mixed message about weight in America. I see this when I look at magazines targeted to women and it scares me for a different reason. They sell Anorexia, not burger and fries.

If they had their way, Venus de Milo would come back looking like a unhealthy stick figure!!!

I agree with you, “Crazy, isn’t it?”

    Have a great weekend, Raul:~)

    Hi Sara,

I’m glad you got a good start for the weekend :)

And yes, the business was to sell lots of food. Now that it is becoming a mess, the new business is to sell the “antidote” , so everybody go to the other end. Somehow it is funny when you think of it. I can’t imagine the Venus de Milo looking like a super model :)

  3. I can see the humour in this, but this is very sad, you know? What is happening to people? It’s like folk are so addicted to this food that they seem unable to make responsible decisions about their health.

    Hi Davina,

You’re right, there’s a lot of concern about addiction to alcohol, cigarettes and drugs, but not about excessive food consumption. At the end it works the same way; an attraction motivated by primitive instincts that turns into a physical addiction (the body needs more and more). I guess only an economic problem could bring a partial solution. It is said that in the world poor people is skinny while rich people is fat, but the opposite happens in then US.

    Hi Joy,

Fortunately the problem is being recognized and people is starting to change their mind about food and feeding habits :)
