Hi Jack,

It really seems that the money comes from the services provided rather than ads in the blog.

I guess if there is a good traffic then it wouldn't hurt to try some ads and see how much it'll generate.

I've been blogging for only a month and I had mere cents out of it. But your probably right saying that you can only make money when you have a large audience.
If your really looking to add ads on your site it really easy with adsense I haven't tried any other ads network though.

Hi Barbara,

I've seen many blogs with very little "traffic" and lots of ads, that's why I was curious.

So it seems that all the publicity about monetizing a blog is not so true, you don't make money creating a blog to put ads in it, you can make money when you use a blog to promote an existing service or product you can offer in it.

Thank you for your insight.

Hi Raul,

I've gone back and forth on this. First my thought was if a blogger wants to monetize their blog, why not do it from the get-go. I tried that with my blogging blog, but had very poor results.

Then I went to just a few ads and now just have one.

That said, on my other blogs I use more monetization and actually have decent luck with AdSense. The first few months were terrible, just cents, but as the traffic on the blogs picked up, so did my earnings. I make enough to cover my blogging expenses plus a little more, but can't say I'm getting rich - yet!

From what I've seen online, with the exception of the probloggers, it appears a lot of those who make money with blogs are doing so because of a service or product they offer. So in that case, it's not our blog that is making us money, but what we're doing with it.

I imagined that the main source of income for a blog would be the services and/or products they offer, rather than from the ads they have.

Somehow it is good though, that way there's no need to place ads in a blog :)

Yes, you do need to have some traffic to earn any kind of consistent income with advertisements on blogs. I do not have that kind of traffic, so I thought "what a I going to earn? 60 cents a year?" In that case, why don't I just donate 60 cents to this website so neither you, nor I have to look at those ugly ads?

From what I've heard though, the bigger blogs often have coaching, affiliate marketing, or information products as their main source of income. AdSense? Usually not the big chunk. Of course, it varies from site to site.
